Three Generations of Authentic Salvadoran Cuisine
Playa Las Tunas Restaurant, located at 1107 S Alvarado St, Los Angeles, CA 90006, has a rich family history spanning nearly three decades. It was founded in 1995 with the mission of bringing authentic Salvadoran flavors to the Los Angeles community.
The restaurant prides itself on using traditional family recipes that have been carefully preserved and passed down through generations. Their menu features classic Salvadoran dishes such as handmade pupusas (including cheese, mixed, and bean varieties), carne asada, plato típico (traditional Salvadoran breakfast), and pollo encebollado. They also offer traditional drinks like horchata and tamarindo.
Beyond the food, Playa Las Tunas aims to provide a memorable experience with live music shows every Friday and Saturday evening, karaoke nights, and screenings of soccer games. They also have a room available for private events.
During the pandemic, the restaurant, owned by Celso Hernandez, faced challenges but was able to remain open and retain staff with the help of financial assistance and resources.
